Starting a thread to chronicle all of the modifications to my p500. Brought it home on January 24 th 2015. I was wanting a green one but both of my daughters picked red. First mod was to make a truck bed/cargo box. I was leaving in less than 2 weeks for a trip to my property out in west Tx. So I put together something with the materials I had on hand. It got us through it's maiden voyage but I will have to have one a little bigger and a little stronger. Picked up some wood today after work and should start on it tomorrow. Also slimed the tires with about 14 oz. in each on. No flats and we rolled over a lot of cactus. Made a plywood roof attached with heavy duty zip ties. Works very well and can support a lot of weight. Picked up the Honda accessory wires and have some big red center caps on order. Also ordered some led lights from Amazon. One for the cargo bed, a dome light and one for the floor. They should be in next week. And don't tell my wife but I stole the receiver hitch from her car to put on it. Stay tuned for pics and updates. Andrew.
One of the things the p500 needs is storage space. While out at the ranch I screwed some binocular cases up under the dash. Worked perfectly for cell phones and stuff.
Got a few things in today. Center caps and 1 of the led lights. The caps fit pretty tight so hopefully the will stay on. As I lost the two end caps I bought from northern tool out at the ranch.
The other two led lights from amazon came yesterday. They look ok, but the rubber base is not sealed to the light housing. I probably use some silicone on them when I hook them up.
Worked on cargo bed tonight. Took off the rack and back drilled holes to bolt it down. I think it will be plenty strong with lots of room. Also tested out the led lights with a 12v deer feeder battery. They had just the right amount of brightness. Can't wait to get it all hooked up.
Thanks sid45. It does keep me going. Made a trip to Home depot and Lowes today to pick up some more hardware. Got some stronger door pulls and picked up these handy pocket pouches.
Today was supposed to rainy and cold but it held off till now. So I was able to work on the led lights. In the above picture with the pockets you can see just above the 12v ac. plug I installed the floor light. And here I cut a piece of wood to mount the cab light. The cargo one will be mounted just like this on the other side of the roll bar. To hook these up I will use a wiring harness with a water proof switch from Super Bright LEDs Inc. Part number WWH-DTD30 .
Thanks, I almost went that route but I hate having to buy batteries. I have one like yours in my gun safe and it does great as long as I remember to turn it off lol.
Just ordered waterproof light switches with the wiring harness and relays from super bright LEDs part WWH-DTD30 and a winch mount from Fuse power sports. Part 1619F
Got the wiring harnesses in yesterday. I think it's a little over kill for the small LED's I got but they should work great if I ever save up enough money for a 40" light bar.
Also got a winch. Was wanting a superwinch Terra 45 then decided a 35 would be plenty. So I went to order from the shop I deal with and they talked me into a Quadboss 3500 with synthetic rope. Hope it lasts. For a even $200 I couldn't pass it up. I get good deals as I deliver all their stuff to them. ( I am a Ups driver).
Tomorrow is supposed to be nice and sunny. For the past 3 weeks it been rainy and cold especially on the weekends. Planning to finishing up the painting on the bed and maybe getting the lights hooked up.
OK, after doing a little research I don't think I am going to use the wiring harness with the relays. All three of the led lights won't pull 1 amp together.Over 25amps is where it gets to be a fire hazard without a relay. So I am going to run + and - under the hood in an electrical box. I cut a piece of wood and bolted in with wing nuts using existing holes. May paint it later. Something like this.what do you all think.
Winch mount from Fuse came in today. Looks well made. Its one to mount in the lower position below the radiator. I wanted this as I will have a basket up top to carry a cooler and if it was up higher the basket may get in the way of the synthetic rope during a pull.
Got a lot of work done on Pockets tonight with the help of my father n law. All the leds are hooked up. Switches mounted on the dash. And some new and stronger door pulls on the bed.
Looking great nice work on wiring harness and rear box, also like your dash switch location nice use of space. The Texas bottle opener is very cool AND handy for those long necks...
Thanks JCart, I am real happy how everything turned out. I'll be heading out to the ranch April 16 thur the 19 th to give it all a good shakedown. Although I did already test the bottle opener .
Back from the Chihuahua Desert. Had an awesome time. Here's some of Pockets adventures. Everything worked great but still maybe need a glove box and something under the driver seat. Arrived at the ranch wed afternoon. About midnight we had some heavy thunderstorms and buy the next morning the creek had flooded. Made for some good swimming. Loaded up Pocket's to fill some feeders.
Here's some more pictures from the trip. Filling some feeders my brother ( in the pic) thought about putting the ladder in the bed. It fit in there and was actually pretty stable. Out walking around we found a beautiful strawberry cactus blooming and Pockets found some dog cactus. With 14oz of green slim in each tire they are still holding air. And a night run for some more river rocks.
I have been trying to decide what kind of gun racks to get for a while. Picked up a Big Sky single on the way out to the ranch. Works great for the .410 and was hoping a bow would fit in there. I tried my brother's but it didn't work. Maybe mine or my daughter's will.
Looks like I will also have to rethink my light switches. I originally intended to use some waterproof ones but they required a little more effort to hook up so I went with these. I have one on my 4Wheeler and have had no problem with it.
But it rained quite a bit today and when I came home two of the led lights were on with the switches off as they had got some water in them. May have to fab up a rain visor or something.
More pockets for Pockets. This could be turning into a sickness but these AWP pocket pouches from Lowes are great. Also cut a board to fill the gap on the bottom of the back panel. Just have to get it painted.
Also while at Lowes I stumbled across a drip edge I thought I could use as a rain visor. After I screwed in the new AWP's I started cutting and came up with this. And found a place to hang my koozie.
