Cheap Winch - Mad Dog 2500 lb

I just saw a Mad Dog Winch 2500lb on ebay for $189 shipped. i really don't need a winch & never used one, nor do I know what I would use it for except to get unstuck. Would this be an ok unit that would get so minimal usage?
I've seen lots of discussion regarding winch's but like I said, I don't think if I got one it would be used. it would mainly be for insurance.
It looks like it has the bracket needed to hook it up.

The link doesn't work for me and I know nothing about that brand. I would spend extra and get a known brand and a larger winch. At minimum you want to take the weight of the machine (including you and the gear) and take that times 3 to get the winch size (unless your just lifting a snow blade or something). You can use snatch blocks and stuff to get by with a smaller winch but it's better to have what you need and then have the snatch block for the really tough pulls. When your stuck you might be pulling 2,000# (machine plus mud) so you will be really working a 4,000# winch.

I have been really happy with my Viper Max winches. Spend the extra and get the synthetic cable, you'll find you will use the winch more than you think just because it's there and handy.

I would stay away from a brand of winch called "Traveller". I installed a customer supplied one and they are pretty cheaply made. The fairlead must of came out of a Cracker Jack box

Yep - for just a little bit more you can get a Terra series Superwinch which has a lifetime warranty and strong customer support.

When you say a little more, how much more?
When I do a search on ebay, the winch mounting bracket kit is like $300 by itself. Is everyone spending $600 plus for a winch setup?

You should be able to get a winch and the mount for around that $300. I'm not sure who is all offering the winch mount for the 500 though. @motoalliance doesn't have it on their site yet but I'm sure it's in the works.

I think mine if KFI or something like that. (There was one used on Ebay the other day), and I have the Superwinch Terra 4500 on my 500. Cabelas had them on sale a few weeks ago (maybe still do) for $202. So for under $300 with tax you can have a 4500lbs lifetime warrantied winch and mount.

My employee price on the Honda accessory winch (Warn Pro Vantage 2,500) is $228, and the Honda accessory mounting kit is $167. Not a great buy, but a decent savings off retail.

Superwinch 1145230 Terra 4500 lb Winch with Synthetic Rope | eBay

$299 shipped

That is the Superwinch Terra 45 SR (Synthetic Rope)

Nice weight savings vs steel cable. Let's face it, the P500 isn't a powerhouse so keeping weight down would be in everyone's best interest.

That is the winch I'm going with.
