Engine intake tuning?

Hey guys just made a short snorkel by removing the stock plastic intake entirely back to the air box rubber elbow. Took some black plastic ABS 2" ID pipe and elbows and brought the intake up so that its now fits between the seat back, ROPS and sticks up just above seat height. Put an elbow on and 2-3" reducer with screen to keep out the big pieces of keerap from getting in and left the elbow non glued to swivel forward, back etc.

The notion was to get it up out of the dust is all, I have no planned intention of deep water crossing. Not ridden far yet, the good it seems to work and fit well, the not so good is the racket.... In looking at the stock intake it has 3 to 4 cavities what are these for? Sound attenuation, performance tuning? Thinking I might add the equivalent volume to my pipe in the hope of softening the intake growl. Any suggestions fire away...

my guess would be sound deadening, my 09 silverado has a big "wart"one its intake also, cant see it helping with air flow much, sp its got to be for deadening some noise.

For some reason I can't post the pix here so the link should take you to the pix sorry. After messing with the intake in an effort to get it higher away from dust and to then reduce intake noise this is what I came up with. Also added another water drain before the air box. Have not driven it far (just around the block) but it sounds similar to stock I think. Much quieter then v1, with difference being expanded chamber 3" ID pipe beside air box that and the rubber connection behind the seat. Will let you know how it works after the week end.

Looks great. I hope to do the same thiing once I have the time. I am having to change my air filter after just 8 hours of riding....and I could probably do it sooner.

Not looked at the filter but will most certainly be better than stock for sure. Noise wise not as quiet as stock but much quieter than v1, (v1 didn't have 3" resonator). I noted in the manual says to clean the filter everyday if dusty.... That's a little unrealistic in my view poor design.

I'm considering routing the air intake and place it up under the hood. I will be sure to post some pictures if I get this figured out.

Someone on here has done this and I think it was on a P 700 too... I had considered this as well (under hood) and may in the future. I already have a 50 cal ammunition box under there and plan on E-steering, plus a dual battery switch and winch stuff so space is a premium perhaps after e-steering.

Let use know how you make out.
