Install Radio

Where can you install a radio in the dash?
I had a JBL control unit mounted under the 4wd lever and the head unit under the front hood. But this took a dump so i'm not going that way again. Bought a indash style unit single din but now it's looking like it has to be mounted to the roof. which i don't want to do.
Has anyone ever mounted it where the warning plates are located? Not sure if that will have any issues with the shift lever.
Thanks for any help. Just joined in lots of great info on here.

Howdy,
I'm new to the forum. I know this thread is a year old, so you may already have your answer. I just got a 14 700-4. I took the big rectangular warning plate off (drilled through the rivets). I plan to install the stereo in the link on the right side of the rectangle (I don't think there's enough clearance behind the dash on the left side). If I ever go to sell the vehicle, I can pull out my stuff and put the warning plate back on.
