Frozen River Riding
For years we've ridden ATVs on the rivers in our area when it freezes.
Today I was stir crazy so I took the Rincon out for a ride. It was a blast, even if it was -9F.
Got back decided the Pioneer needed to go since the ice was solid, and the snow wasn't deep at all.. just enough for a little traction. Basically a very twisty icy highway.
What a difference. On slippery surfaces because you're sitting you just can't use any "body english" to help steer. The rear end is very whip happy (not always bad!) and again, because youre just "sitting" you feel the cold a LOT more as your heart rate isn't up.
Averaged about 10mph slower on the SxS (45 vs 35).
My toes got the worst of it... still thawing as we speak. It helps to use some muscle when riding in the cold to stay warm! That's for sure!
Fun, but I'll stick to the ATV for the most of the river riding from now on!
