That's right, I fabricated and installed temporarily one fender flare for my P2 moments ago. My background was in roofing and sheet metal . Today I decided to get out my snips and some metal laying around the shop to fab a rocker switch panel. I made two not sure which one I like the best as they are made to mount in different locations. I showed to my buddy Moose and he like them both. I decided to change things up and challenge myself to create a fender flare as fast as I could and told Moose he said "heck yea" so here it is. I know it needs paint and permanately fixed to fender but I did it in under 30 minutes and your the second group to see it. I could tell you how I did it but then I'd have to kill you. Can we say patent together now. I may make the rest for my P2 tomorrow if I have time.

So after some thought, I've concluded that these would be better if I form them with ABS or Kydex plastics. This metal was a good idea to start the process of getting to a finished set that compliment the Honda design. With plastics I can get around some safety issues related to the sharp edges of metal. Attachment utilizing metal to plastic creates issues also, utilizing plastics will allow for use of plastic rivets. There you have it, I will be posting updates as necessary as the process continues.

I was thinking about using plastic as well. Just haven't had time to give it a try. FYI Mcmaster Carr supply has a really good stock of plastics. I was thinking of a fender well for the rear also.

Materials have been ordered and will be in this week. Design process has begun and I'm thinking the new idea will put to shame my first attempt. Success always comes from failure. I'm also working out ideas for inner fenders to minimize mud into engine area and front areas of concern where mud gets into the void between firewall and fenders.

Another template

Another template, I have thick skin let me have your comments good and bad. I want to develop a decent flare. No intentions of selling just need something decent for mine. I get mud slung everywhere as my property has been very wet since Nov. plus plan to upgrade wheels and tires. I know I could wait for the aftermarket parts to catch up but I have to much time on my hands to sit around waiting for them.

I want the after parts market to catch up too. I was reading an article that said Honda released it at SEMA in Nov for developer to get measurements and pics. The list of interested parties in the article was limited to tire wheel manufacturers. I don't know if that list was all that were interested. I'm finding it really challenging to come up with something nice. I really don't want to put something on that will cheapen the overall look. Just hacking something on to say I came up with it is not worth it to me.

Since the Pioneer is new and only in its first year of production, it is most likely going to be a while before we see after market parts. The companies that make them are going to want to see a good number of them sold before they start investing R&D money into them. They want to make sure that they will make money. I predict sometime around December.

Is the first and the second the same besides "color"? Too many edges for me I think, it might look different in person. I had some 6 inch baler belting at the shop I held up to one and I think with a few support braces it wouldn't take much to make one out of it.

The second is very similar to the first. They resemble the jeep flat fenders but its hoping to come up with some similar to Moose Fenders. The factory angles are proving to be the challenge. Flexy Flares look good and may work they are similar to Pacer but give the ability to attach to fender where there is no lip on stock Honda fender.

Flexy fender flare has 21/2 in and 4in flares. I was hoping to create my own and I have put it on the back burner for now as time in shop is taking away from riding and other interests.

I wonder how long we'll be waiting for aftermarket anything?
