My 700-4 front brakes went out at 250 mi (30 days). The service dept told me "if you have been in water OR sand, this is normal". I felt brakes should last longer so I called honda cust serv and the rep said there was nothin he could do if the dealer said it was normal.

Has anyone else had front brake trouble?

That sounds like a big load of crap to me. I would be furious with my dealer.

Just some other ideas.
1) Jack up the front and see if they are dragging when you spin the wheels.
2) If the dealer does not fix it, find out if the Pioneer uses the same pads as the Rincon or one of the other honda atvs, then get some replacement pads from EBC. If you have to pay for em, don't put the stock Honda ones back on it if you can get some from EBC.

the bike is completely stock. stock tires, stock rims, no winch, not even a roof! NO hauling, no pulling trailers. I live in La, so no mountain or large hills. I ride around the pasture mostly, but i have taken it to the ATV park 3 times.

I pulled the calipers and inspected the rotors and pads. Everything looks great except the excessive wear.

I have ordered some Kevlar brake pads (for Big Red (they are supposed to fit)) from Amazon. 2 front sets for $37.

Maybe my back brake isn't working hard enough, or maybe my front brakes aren't fully releasing causing them to wear while I ride? Any ideas?

I would think they are dragging. No way they should be worn in 250 miles. Do the rotors show wear? As far as I know, the Honda doesn't have mud wipers on them. But, that would show up on the rotors. If everything checks out, I would think you had a bad set of pads. That happened to me once on a '96 GMC.
