How long have you owned the Pioneer? 1 week

First impressions Smooth ride, Automatic trans is real nice, will go just about anywhere, Exhaust a tiny bit loud at full throttle/speed, Comfortable for 15 miles

6 months report what have you found different from your initial thought? Will do then

Likes No belt:D, Honda, Short 4 seater, no choke

Dislikes All the **** nets, Would still like a low gear or a lower 1st with a 4th gear, spooled rear diff-would like an open diff, Really needs rear fender flairs-The mud gets in all kinds of stuff with the 4 seater

Would you recommend the Honda Pioneer to others? why or why not? Its a freaking Honda and it does not have any stupid belts

This thread was made to help potential owners and others to get a feel and gain some knowledge from current owners in regards to the Honda Pioneer SxS.

Some things to cover:

  • How long have you owned the Pioneer? Picked up in November 2013
  • First impressions Rear seats are outstanding. Bit awkward to get in/out the front seats.
  • 6 months report what have you found different from your initial thought? Rear seats are awesome!!! Im used to getting in/out the front now.
  • Likes No belt, Its a Honda. It goes anywhere
  • Dislikes No 4th gear/ 40+ mph is quite loud and feels "high strung"
  • Would you recommend the Honda Pioneer to others? why or why not? Yes, really seems a great machine for the $$
  • Gas mileage No idea. Seems to sip gas for daily work, road travel does use gas noticeably.
  • Terrain capabilities? This thing flat GOES. Myself and everyone that has been with me has been seriously impressed. I will say snow performance sounds like its a bit sub par with stock tires. I have little complaints, but did notice an unstable feel on snow covered roads. Those in heavy snowfall areas may want to consider tire upgrades.

How long have you owned the Pioneer? Two weeks
First impressions- Typical Honda product, nothing great but does everything well like my Honda Crosstour.
6 months report what have you found different from your initial thought?
Likes Easy to get in and out, versatile and capable.
Dislikes- vibration until up to speed. Honda there are better tires out there for the money.
Would you recommend the Honda Pioneer to others? why or why not? I paid 9500 for a P2 out the door. Very good value with Honda reliability and resale. Its not an rsx850 in performance but still is very capable.
Gas mileage- Hopefully better than driving my car to the barn.
Terrain capabilities? Been up some pretty good hills and works well. Snow could be better. If I did a lot of snow I would get new tires.
How long have you owned the Pioneer? - 2 weeks

First impressions - will do anything I need it to

6 months report what have you found different from your initial thought? - Not there yet

Likes - No belts, great torque converter, It's a Honda, 4 seats, short wheel base, towing & hauling abilities

Dislikes - haven't found any yet

Would you recommend the Honda Pioneer to others? why or why not? - Yes. I bought it for Hunting, camping, & having fun with my family. I feel like it will do everything I need it to.

Gas mileage - Getting about 20 mpg

Terrain capabilities? - Snow: did ok in 10 in. of snow. Sand: Simple sand dunes @ the Knolls in Utah. Hills: climbed some pretty steep, rocky hills Keeping about 15 mph.

How long have you owned the Pioneer?
I have had mine for a couple months now.
First impressions
I really like it and think it will be exactly what I was wanting. But I want to hold my full impression when spring and summer get here and I can really put it to the test.
6 months report what have you found different from your initial thought?
Have not reached the 6 month yet.
Likes
The way it is built (4 person) as far as converting to a 4 person without making it limousine length like the other sxs 4person machines
Dislikes
None so far
Would you recommend the Honda Pioneer to others? why or why not?
Absolutely
Gas mileage
Good but not really ridden hard just plowing snow so far.
Terrain capabilities
Only ridden in the snow so far

Happy with Honda...long time Ranger owner

Post a picture of your Pioneer

How long have you owned the Pioneer?
2 months

First impressions
love the flexibility of 3rd and 4th seat. need to add front rack for storage but still prefer wheelbase of Honda vs 4 seat Ranger

6 months report what have you found different from your initial thought? will let you know

Likes - auto transmission. 2nd row seating when needed. doors keep mud out. shaft drive.

Dislikes - wouldn't mind low and high range. muffler noise a bit loud inside cab (not as loud as you pass by as it seems inside)

Would you recommend the Honda Pioneer to others? why or why not?
absolutely. Honda has been my favorite for ATV's since the day of the 110. glad they are making a UTV that is strong competitor to Ranger. have owned Ranger UTV since 2005 and Pioneer first Honda option that has made me reconsider. was able to haul clients and friends to duck hole and deer woods but could also flip down seats and haul feed/cargo as needed. very functional.

Gas mileage
not sure. don't care

Terrain capabilities? our hunting club is in river bottoms near White River refuge in AR and road conditions are currently horrible due to logging....Pioneer never missed a beat. glad I have the winch but haven't needed it.

Utard, great looking trailer sir! Unfortunately I will have to get an enclosed model (extra cost) due to road dirt and salt in local winter driving conditions.

Make sure you measure good.

I have seen a few threads about people saying theirs will not fit inside trailers.

How long have you owned the Pioneer?: Since Oct 1st 2013

First impressions: I wished it came with bucket seats and had more top end speed.

11 months report what have you found different from your initial thought?: The bench seat is comfortable and has good lumbar support for anyone with a bad back, I can ride all day and doesn't bother me at all. The top end speed is fine for the trails I drive on and the fact that it goes slow without over heating or carboning up. 45 mph is faster than you think especially on the trails I drive.

Likes: Price, quality,no belts and fun factor.

Dislikes: Won't fit in a regular size garage with factory hard top roof installed.

Would you recommend the Honda Pioneer to others? why or why not?: I would recommend the Pioneer to anyone who likes going off the beaten trail and taking a friend (s) to enjoy it with. I originally was going to buy 2 ATV's for my wife and I but I am so glad I bought the Pioneer, we can talk and point stuff out without stopping (the Pioneer was also cheaper than 2 ATV's we were looking at). Where we ride is very remote and my first thought was with one machine we better get a Honda for reliability and I have not been wrong so far.

Gas mileage: Never really checked it but it will go all day and all night and not run out. Most trips we only use a couple bars.

Terrain capabilities?: Have not found anywhere it won't go or climbable hill that it won't climb yet. They are very impressive in the mud and water.

If you want the fastest SXS this is not it, if you want something affordable that will give years of fun and reliability than this could be for you.

I know a guy who is still saving up to get a 1000 Can-am because his friends all have them it costs twice as much as the Pioneer, they mostly drive on dirt roads where they can hit 60 mph and eat each others dust all day, I don't find that as much fun anymore but it depends on what you want.

What ever brand you decide to buy take a hard look at the SXS's. You also don't need to break the bank to have fun. The SXS's are also fun to customize just join the forum and get all kinds of ideas and share your experiences.

How long have you owned the Pioneer?
170 kilometres < than 10 days
First impressions
mine is a P 500, light nimble machine fun (reminds me of my Dad's '47 Willys jeep) only with great brakes and way better steering, not huge power but geared to create a capable package.
6 months report what have you found different from your initial thought?
will let you know
Likes
noted above as well as compact fits in short box pickup, quiet relative to other UTVs I've tried/ridden in, love the paddle shifting, comfortable seating, surprisingly roomy interior for 50" machine
Dislikes
none so far Honda, could have made an under dash glove box, slow speed power steering and front diff lock
Would you recommend the Honda Pioneer to others? why or why not?
Looking for a ground pounding power machine..... Look elsewhere, as noted above, if that fits your needs get one, they are huge fun!
Gas mileage not crunched it out 90kms think it was 8.89 litres.... Way better then my 01 Rubi
Terrain capabilities?
not covered enough terrain yet, trails, old roads....huge fun

I have had Mine for a month.

I love it. I am looking for a family ride not a racer.
.It pulls through the trail and mud better than most 4 wheelers. I am guessing because of the weight. It gets to the bottom and digs.

The only dislike is how hot the front seat gets in the middle. Solved the problem with a little seat cushion for my little guy when he rides up front.

I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone that is looking to ride trails and needs a workhorse around the farm.

  • How long have you owned the Pioneer? - 1 year next month
  • First impressions - very nice SxS for the money, Honda quality which is the main reason I bought it to begin with, could use a little more room in the front seat area...hit my knees getting in and out sometimes
  • 6 months report what have you found different from your initial thought? My opionion is still the same, havent used it enough to really notice much difference. Had it almost a year and hasnt hit 20 hours yet. I am started to wish I got the camo though.
  • Likes - versatility, no belt, Honda reliability, price
  • Dislikes - leg room in the front, suspension travel...had it bottom out a couple times just running around the farm, havent even been on any real trails yet
  • Would you recommend the Honda Pioneer to others? why or why not? - That all depends on what they are planning to use the SxS for, if they are looking for a work horse that will get them around the farm, go out hunting, trail riding with the family...absolutely, cant beat it. If they want a racer, rock crawler type of SxS...not so much.
  • Gas mileage - Not sure
  • Terrain capabilities? Handles what little Ive put it through so far, which to be fair...isnt much

Honda hit a home run for us. We needed the versatility of a work horse and a four seater that was still in a small enough package to hit some narrow trails with. Plenty of room in the back for 2 grown ups. Bench seat up front is nice and provides great lumbar support and I really like the door configurations and how they operate. Everything on this machine is rock solid!
