Hello Everyone:

I'm very interested in this new Honda, I have been a Honda fan most of my life with 3 wheelers up to my Honda Rincon, they are great machines, my question, how loud is this machine compared to the Rincon, about the same, worse or less noise, my Rincon has the least amount of exhaust noise I have owned, I hope the new Pioneer is the same, my biggest complaint about SxS machines is that they are loud, on long runs I need to wear some sort of hearing protection.I hope the Honda is not that loud.
Thanks

Came from a rincon to the Pioneer and it is much louder. Not unbearable but definitely louder. As you pointed out thought the rincon was whisper quiet as far as quads go so not really a fair comparison. I would say the pioneer sounds more like a yamaha or polaris quad sounds but is quiet as far as sxs standards. Rode a buddies polaris ranger 400 and it was UNBEARABLY loud past 35kph.

The pioneer is loudest when under load throttling up a grade. Guess that 680 motor has too work a little harder moving that 1300lbs versus the 700lb of the rincon. Quiets out nicely when cruising or not pushing the throttle hard.

Wearing a hat or helmet makes it totally tolerable as well. If you have really sensitive hearing or are doing a long run a pair of earprotectors might be a good idea.

NOTHING is going to be as quiet as your rincon though except for your truck :)

Welcome to the forum kenner. If you can test drive one that would be the best thing to do. Compared to the other SxS that I have driven the Pioneer is quiet. You just can't compare it to a wheeler though since the motor is more "caged in" and you will get noise from that.

Welcome kenner!
I can say that Pioneer is more quiet than a Honda Foreman 450 ES.

Who has used the add-on silencing mufflers.....like those from Kolpin? I want reasonable quiet for hunting situations. How much noise is reduced with these add-on mufflers?

No hoops, I like a nice tone on my machines. For foggy though using it for hunting he wants stealth and those stealth exhaust systems do help there. I've worked on a few wheelers with them installed and they do make them quieter. You can hear every little tick in the motor.. lol I don't think it would be really tough to build your own if you have the skills, could even build a rear bumper to help protect it.

Any SxS will be louder than a 4 wheeler with the same hp/displacement engine. There are just so many more surfaces for sound to bounce off of in the SxS configuration. Sort of like a car is louder in the garage than on the street. The Pioneer is fairly quiet for a SxS compared to a Ranger or Rhino.

Plenty of ways to make the Pioneer more or less noisy. You can get silencers, wear sound cancelling headphones, remove the muffler, etc... It is up to you. Wasn't the Big Red too loud and then they made the Pioneer quieter?
