max tire vs. deep mud

8310 Views 24 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  skorp1702
ok im thinking about putting a 27 or 28 inch tire maybe kenda executioners. I had them on my Rincon and pulled nice almost like a ss bogger on my cj7. but it didn't have the torque to turn them in the deep mudd. anything about halfway over the tire its would turn but not sling. I know the gears are different in the pioneer and everything but thinking about the weight difference. 800lbs loaded bike vs a 1900lb loaded sxs. so has anyone upgraded there tire size that does any mud riding if so howd they sling the tires and what tire did you run? thanks

Welcome to the forum skorp. I know we have a few pure mudders around here somewhere, as I can only really give you snow reports for the next few months. :)
you gave me more than enough moose but 1 question the one guy with the terms. did he have a gear reduction?
No, he never mentioned anything cept the 28" Terms. His user name is Itsnotajeep maybe send him a message to confirm. Type "new shoes for the Pioneer" into this pages search and it should pull up his thread. Sorry I can't Link it, but I'm on my cell ATM.
As far as I know there is no gear reduction for any of the Honda SXS. If there was one there would have to be a "shift fix" also through the computer or an electric shift mode/buttons added so it would shift correctly under heavy throttle.
27x10-12 6ply weight: 31.04 OD 26.6
27x12-12 6ply weight 34.34 OD 26.5
28x9x14 6ply weight: 27
28x11x14 6ply weight: 32

I think youd be alright with them they aren't a extremely heavy tire

there are a couple gear reductions out i found one for my rinny a while back and also seen a rinny with top speed of 25 with 32 silverbacks i believe was the tire it was 54% reduction is what he told me and it shifted just like the normal just different speeds. the popular GR for the rinny is the BRGR. also the final drive gear assy off the big red and I think the pioneer has the same gears as the red but not completely sure.

that's the executioner weights? I wish they made a 28 -12rim executioner. found a dirt devil 28-10 12 on the bay last night I think it was 29 lbs. minds is riddled with a lot of tires and weights right now
A lot of people run a 14" wheel but riding in Ky & Tn its hard on sidewalls so I'll stick to 12"
For your reference the stock front tire+rim is 33lbs total.

Moose I couldn't believe how heavy the stock tires was.. That's why most people cant tell the difference in power when they go to 26" or 27" tires
ky what tire is that?
I know Ky , I feel like people don't believe me half the time when I tell em my rims+ tires are less than 5lbs more than those little stockers. If the steel rims and tire compound that the Pioneer comes with lasts as long as it weighs. The only thing else left on earth with them will be twinkies. Hahaha

Glad you got it narrowed down. We expect a report and photos from the first run!
oh im going to mount them tomorrow night and we have a ride this sunday on the lease ill update on here sunday of how the pioneer does with them. if they pull them good I might be looking into a lift and bigger tires
Increase in top speed?

Hello,I'm new to the forum. My new pioneer will arrive Feb.2 (can't wait). I hear a lot of talk about after market wheels and tires and I was wondering if an increase in top end could be expected with a larger diameter tire and if so how much?
Yes you'll see an increase. How much will depend on the tires size, and what your driving on. But I have heard the computer cuts off at 45mph on the speedo.
