I have a 2014 Honda Pioneer SxS that occasionally electronically disconnects drive to the vehicle. The electrical schematic does not indicate why a lose of ground would have any effect on the mechanical drive system. When the drive is disconnected electronically a dash replaces the D letter momentarily before reengaging.
I have added extra earth straps from the battery to engine and frame which has helped somewhat.
Any idea why or where this occurring?

I do not have a 700, but researching your problem I found the below information.
.
Honda Pioneer 700's are well known for needing the transmission warmed up before moving.
Other Items of interest about the 700
  • Some owners have had internal muffler blockages
  • Some owners had seatbelt switch problems
  • Some owners had ignition switch problems
  • Ouch, quite a few owners have bad camshafts
Below items are worthy of reading, that might help.

Not mine, but here is a free Service Manual for a 2014 Honda Pioneer 700
You can view it online, or download it, by clicking "Download this manual".
DO NOT click the ADVERTISMENTS on that page that also say Download.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have had the 700 for over two years now so familiar with usual issues including experiencing low engine oil. However the issue with the disengagement is electrical not oil related. When the oil is low the MIL still displays D and refuses to move whereas this issue the MIL changes to a Dash and reengages soon after with all torque. The 700 runs normally but for this occasional anomaly even when hot.

Cheers

You are welcome.
I posted a bunch of options, because sometimes it sparks an "AH Yes! that could be it" moment. (y)
One of the threads I hoped you did read, was this one, specifically post #6.
Here is that post.
"Check the connectors at the shift solenoids (3 of them) on the front side of the motor for moisture. They are what supplies the oil pressure to the transmission so any moisture in there might mess with them."
