Yes sir. Mobil 1 4T is a motorcycle oil, not a car oil. Car and ATV, bike, utv oils are very similar, but their differences have to do with friction modifiers. You might end up with your tranny slipping if you put car oil in the Pioneer.

Check your owners manual. Page 114 for what is required by Honda specs. I'd stay with an oil that meets all of those requirements at least until your warranty is up.
Thanks so much! Where do you get your Mobil 1 ?

I order it through Amazon. I know O' Reilly's and Auto Zone carry it in my area as well, but its cheaper for me to order stuff out here instead of driving 90min for oil. :)

I'd suggest calling around to your local car parts stores, if you have local ones anyway. In my experience, I've never found it at Walmart or Kmart or other stores like that.

Thank you, sir!!

I have used Shell Rotella T6 full synthetic in my VTX1300, VTX1800, and Goldwing during the time I owned them. Put many miles on them without issue. Plan on using it in the Pioneer as well. Do a search on the web for Rotella T6 in motorcycles and you'll find a ton of information and analysis that has been done on this oil.

Just my opinion

i run the shell rotella T 15w40 dino oil from walmart for $12.97 a gallon .....never let me down yet

I too run shell 5w-40 in virtually every vehicle I own and have owned (which is adding up quick!) used it in the Rincon for years with no issues.

I even use the used oil as bar oil on my chain saw. :)

Maybe that's why I got stuck in the snow today.. stock oil still in there.

MOOSE,
How about the Amsoil 10W-40 Full Synthetic ATV oil ? It is their product code MCF.

Wondering if anyone runs Amsoil in their Pioneer ?

Great write up. I'm gonna do my first service this weekend. Probably a dumb question, but why isn't there a cover over the oil filter drain hatch? Or did I lose mine already?
I thought the same thing, but i think the hole is meant to be open otherwise people would pull their filter out and the oil would just pool and leak from every available part of the skid plate.

Moose, Thanks for the info and pictures on the oil change. Its nice to know what your looking at before doing something for the first time. Quick and easy. Thanks again.
it sure does, i always hate that first time where you have no direction and the process takes super long, although if it's a nice day out and you have a 6 pack... it's not that bad afterall.

New to the forum, I read your write up on the oil and filter change. The flat washer on the filter bolt is it a metal crush washer or a rubber seal washer? Any help would be appreciated. Just did the service and found a leak and read your post. Thinking that I missed it or it was missing from the previous owner.

The washer on the oil filter bolt is to keep the spring from pushing into the rubber of the filter. It is a thin metal washer. Can you tell where the leak is coming from? Possibly the o-ring on the filter cover got pinched or it's just excess oil from the skid plate dripping off.
