Hey Everyone!

I have searched and consulted several resources and have not been able to get "reliable" answers to my questions.

Per my Honda Owner's Manuals:

2021 Honda Pioneer SXS500M2
Tire pressure: 10 PSI front and rear - 24x8.00-12 (front); 24x10.00-12 (rear)
Wheel torque: 98 lb-ft

2007 Honda FourTrax Rincon TRX680FA
Tire pressure: Front - 4.4 PSI (25x8.00-12); Rear - 3.6 PSI - 25x10.00-12
Wheel torque: 47 lb-ft (front and rear)

I have installed the OEM Rincon aluminum wheels (with OEM 25" radial tires) on my Pioneer 500.
  • What should I set the tire pressure at? (I have somewhat split the difference and have set it to 7 PSI.)
  • What should the lug nut torque be? (I have torqued the nuts at 70 lb-ft.)
Additional Information: When originally trying to tighten the nuts on the aluminum wheels to 98 lb-ft, it seemed like "something" was being stressed... Looking at the backside of the aluminum wheels, I saw that they were concaved at the lug bolt holes and not flat -- there is an approximate 6mm gap between the back of the wheel at the lug bolt holes and the flat axle flange. To take up the 6 mm gap, I put 2 aluminum washers on each lug bolt before installing each wheel/tire.

Thank you!

Howdy and welcome from Northern Iowa
.
To my knowledge:
... lug nut torque is based mainly off of the rim material and hardness of that material.
... but vehicle weight, thread size and pitch are also part of the equation.
... the studs and nuts are probably the same size or so close the difference doesn't matter.
..... so I would torque according to the owners manual that the rim came from.
.
... tire air pressure is based off of the tire material, tire ply and vehicle weight.
..... so pressurize according to the owners manual that the tire came from.
..... or what is on the sidewall of the tire.
..... and then adjust pressure to what rides best for your situation.
.
Side note: Google says
  • 2021 Honda Pioneer SXS500M2 (Pioneer 500) has a curb weight of 1027 pounds.
  • 2007 Honda FourTrax Rincon TRX680FA has a curb weight of 658 pounds.
By weight, you are overloading the tires.
Is that enough to cause damage?
Probably not, heck haha, some guys weigh close to 300lbs.
To know for sure you would need to do some Googling into the specs of the tires.
